Payments underpin travel management. Ease-of-use for travelers and data for employers are vital. To delve into this topic, we talked one-on-one with Citi managing director Gonca Latif-Schmitt, head of the bank’s commercial card business in North America. Topics included the challenges with data at each step of the payment lifecycle, how customer service can be a differentiator for issuers, European Union regulations and more.

We then conducted a roundtable discussion about virtual payments featuring Conferma co-founder and CEO Simon Barker, CHG Healthcare travel manager Gordon Cowley and U.S. Bank head of corporate payment systems emerging markets and strategy Nicole Tackett. We touched on several areas, including use cases beyond hotel, fighting fraud, the interaction between treasury and travel departments within organizations, the TMC’s role and incentive in facilitating virtual payments and development of hybrid virtual account/centralized BTA accounts.
