San Diego - Not every Global Business Travel Association convention produces an affirmative answer to the question, "Anything new this year?" Last week's did.

Sitting in a back corner of the trade show in a modest booth was big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning researcher Barzan Mozafari. He's a professor at the University of Michigan and creator of a new way to plan business trips. His idea sprung from the frustrations he experienced with the typical process for his own travel.

Called TripEnvision, Mozafari's technology embraces the concept of declarative travel planning.
